Additional Information

The Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum

Your adventure begins at the Appleton Estate Welcome Center. Here you can kick back after the drive to relax and savour a delicious Appleton Estate cocktail before embarking on this rum-filled odyssey.

First you will meet the legendary Joy Spence, the world's first female master blender, whose expertise has helped to shape the world-renowned Appleton Estate legacy. The greeting will be followed by a short video on the history of rum and Appleton Estate.

The next step will be to explore the estate's lush sugarcane fields. Learn how this sweet crop was transformed into rum centuries ago and enjoy a refreshing taste of pure sugarcane juice. The amazing process from sugar cane to rum has led many to refer to the cane as green gold.

The first stage of the magical transformation is the conversion of sugar cane to molasses, the foundation of Appleton Estate's exceptional rum. The molasses encapsulate the estate’s unique terroir, a distinctive combination of soil, climate, and history that you can truly appreciate during your visit.

Then, you are taken into the heart of the distillery, where copper stills heat, vaporize, and purify fermented liquid into a higher-proof spirit. Marvel at the oak barrels, where time ages, mellows, and flavours the rum

The journey culminates in a tasting experience of the exquisite flavours of Appleton Estate's premium aged rums to discover why they're revered worldwide.

Beyond the rum, Appleton Estate offers a complete experience. Indulge in authentic Jamaican cuisine at their on-site restaurant, shop for unique souvenirs and limited-edition rums, and soak up the beautiful surroundings.

We encourage you to inquire at the front desk of the hotel for additional information about excursions to the Joy Spence Appleton Estate Rum Experience. Currently, the tour welcomes visitors Tuesday through Saturday from 9 AM to 3:30 PM to unleash their inner rum connoisseur. Check with us to know if any changes have been made to these times. While spontaneous adventurers are always welcome to the estate, groups of 15 or more are encouraged to book ahead for a truly unforgettable experience.

Ackee and saltfish isn't just a Jamaican breakfast,

filling meal. This necessity became a symbol of Jamaican resourcefulness. But it's more than that. By making this dish their own, Jamaicans took ownership of their past, transforming a symbol of hardship into a celebration of resilience and cultural pride.

What to know before trying it.

Ackee can be toxic if the fruit or pod hasn't ripened and opened naturally on the tree. Locals are knowledgeable about this and skilled in preparing it safely. Jamaicans love spicy food, but you can request adjustments in the spice level to suit your taste. Enjoy!

The Jamaica Carnival Experience

If you’ve done any research on Jamaica’s vibrant popular culture you would have come across the annual celebration known as carnival.

For about a week each year carnival-goers, or revelers as they are popularly known, participate in parties, concerts and costumed street parades of dancing to Caribbean soca music. In Jamaica it may be fair to say that carnival is a pop culture event but it comes from other areas of the Caribbean where it has deeper cultural, religious and historical significance.

Bob marley Museum

Our reggae icon Bob Marley put Jamaica on the global map with his thought-provoking socio-political music packing concert halls, arenas, parks and stadiums in countries and continents across the world .Kingston offers the unique opportunity to visit the place that was his home which has now been transformed into the Bob Marley Museum. The Courtleigh Hotel & Suites and  the Jamaica Pegasus are all located minutes away from this now famous address.
